چکیده

A Raster-based Spatiotemporal Hierarchical Data Model (RSHDM) was designed for the nature of marine phenomena or marine fishery management. Based on the data model a spatiotemporal data warehouse for marine fishery management has been developed. The practice shows that the RSHDM can provide aggregation data for the fishery management on each level.

An Indigenous Model of a Contested Pacific Herring Fishery in Sitka, Alaska

This paper uses GIS and spatiotemporal analysis of a historically and culturally modified marine ecosystem to evaluate Pacific herring abundance, declines, vulnerabilities, and future prospects, about which a Native Tribe and state fisheries managers disagree. In 2008, the Sitka Tribe of Alaska (STA) requested that an area within its traditional waters be closed to commercial sac roe fishing to...

Visualization for fisheries management from a spatiotemporal perspective

Visualization is a very potent tool in the provision of decision support in fisheries information systems. Fisheries management involves distinct groups of participants with a common purpose but different perspectives on strategies to be pursued and the information required for effective management. This paper discusses the visualization capabilities of FishCAM2000 (FC), which is a computer-bas...

Identifying Risk: Concurrent Overlap of the Antarctic Krill Fishery with Krill-Dependent Predators in the Scotia Sea

Mitigating direct and indirect interactions between marine predators and fisheries is a motivating factor for ecosystem-based fisheries management (EBFM), especially where predators and fisheries compete for a shared resource. One difficulty in advancing EBFM is parameterizing clear functional responses of predators to indices of prey availability. Alternative characterizations of fishery-preda...

When Is Spillover from Marine Reserves Likely to Benefit Fisheries?

The net movement of individuals from marine reserves (also known as no-take marine protected areas) to the remaining fishing grounds is known as spillover and is frequently used to promote reserves to fishers on the grounds that it will benefit fisheries. Here we consider how mismanaged a fishery must be before spillover from a reserve is able to provide a net benefit for a fishery. For our mod...
